US regulator accused BitMEX of illegal activity

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filed a civil lawsuit against the operators and leaders of the BitMEX derivatives exchange in New York for illegal transactions and violation of AML / CFT regulations.

According to the statement, the regulator accuses the trading platform of refusing to register and illegally providing services to American retail traders using borrowed funds for $ 1 trillion without following KYC and AML procedures. The CFTC requires the seizure of all illegally obtained income, the payment of monetary fines and a permanent ban on trading activities.

In addition, the New York County attorney charged four exchange executives with conspiracy, violation of the Bank Secrecy Act and bribery of foreign officials. The Justice Department has already announced the arrest of BitMEX CTO Reed Dwyer. The accused face up to five years in prison and a fine of $ 250 thousand.
