Scientists have turned old smartphones into microscopes for students

Researchers have developed a special lens that allows you to transform old smartphone into the microscope.

A team of scientists from Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University has already upgraded 500 mobile phones donated by local Samsung Electrics. All microscopes will be donated to schools across the country with a shortage of such equipment. The program plans to upgrade at least 2,500 old smartphones to ensure equal access to quality education for all students.

The university press release does not specify the specific steps and technical methods of conversion. It is known that smart lenses invented by the staff of the Faculty of Natural Sciences are at the heart of the modernization of phones. The displayed image of the device also shows the inscription «50X», which may indicate the degree of enlargement of the objects under consideration.

Despite the lack of information, this project is very exciting, since it allows not only to provide schoolchildren with scientific equipment, but also is a good example of waste reduction.

Recall that earlier we also reported on the development of plastic chips that work without electricity..
