Oil and gas company BP to expand biofuel production in Brazil

BP oil and gas company in partnership with US agri-food company Bunge to create BP Bunge Bioenergia to produce biofuels in the Brazilian market.

For the production of biofuels, 32 million tons of sugar cane will be grown per year. Of this amount, 2 billion liters of biofuel will be produced, which will be enough for an annual refueling of 1 million cars.. 

BP is doubling its existing biofuel business. The company will create 10,000 new jobs. 70% of Brazilian cars are slated to switch to biofuels in the next 10 years.

The Brazilian government supports the development of ethanol production from sugarcane and stimulates the growth of the biofuel market. In 2018, ethanol production from domestically grown sugarcane was about 26 billion liters. Manual Brazil introduces new transport policy — RenovaBio — to increase ethanol production. 

Biofuels reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65 percent, «green» energy is also being developed in our country, in the Omsk region the first solar power plant was put into operation.
