Audi to equip its new Q4 e-tron crossover with an augmented reality display that will display dashboard information on the windshield.
The projection will consist of static and dynamic elements. The first group includes the display of basic information, such as the current vehicle speed and traffic signs in front. From the inside, it will look like they are floating three meters in front of the car..
Dynamic images include elements such as AR turn arrows generated by the navigation system, which will be projected into the driver’s field of view roughly where they should be in the physical world. It will seem to a person in the car that they are located ten meters in front of the vehicle..
To create these effects, Audi uses an imaging unit built into the dashboard. It consists of a bright liquid crystal display that directs its rays to a system of mirrors with optical components for separating near and far elements. Further, the rays are directed to the desired areas of the windshield, where the driver perceives them in the form of a projection.
A special software module processes and synchronizes all information from sensors and cameras so that images do not shake when moving, while being in the right places on the virtual display.
Earlier, we also talked about the prototype of the futuristic Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR electric car. with contactless control system.
