Mercedes-Benz has published a video reviewing the prototype of the VISION AVTR electric car, the development of which was inspired by a sci-fi film «Avatar».
Instead of a conventional steering wheel, the futuristic concept car has a multi-function hand control on the center console, almost like a joystick, according to the German manufacturer. The car’s interior is also equipped with a number of other sensors and an artificial intelligence system that optimize the operation of the equipment, determine the owner by breathing and heartbeat. and allow the driver to interact with the vehicle through a visual projection on the hand.
VISION AVTR has four high-performance electric motors located next to the wheels with a combined power of over 350 kW. The innovative all-wheel drive with torque vectoring allows the torque distribution to be adjusted according to the driving situation, while ensuring maximum active safety. Thanks to the ability to control the front and rear axles at the same time, the car can move sideways at an angle of 30 degrees.
VISION AVTR: The Road Test
The developers claim that the 110 kW battery·h provides a cruising range of more than 700 km, replenished by an energy recovery system and 33 movable solar panels located at the rear of the roof. The battery can be fully charged from the mains in just 15 minutes thanks to the new technology based on graphene and organic chemistry.
The automotive industry is undergoing dramatic changes, so vehicles will change more in the next decade than in the entire last century..
