Lightning Network will introduce a new authentication system without accounts

Lightning Labs has released a specification for a new authentication system for the Lightning Network that moves away from traditional email and code-based accounts by replacing them with tokens.

In the published document the project team suggests using the Token Authentication Service (LSAT) when making payments. The new authentication protocol will issue special tokens to each user of the lightning network after paying with bitcoins for a product or service on the site. This identifier will eliminate the need to provide personal information and replace the account.

In fact, the tokens will act as an analogue of the pass to each individual site. In this case, the user will be able to independently manage such identifiers by exchanging, revoking or changing them after issuance. LSAT will also allow recurring billing apps to automatically charge an address instead of making upfront payments..

According to the developers, Token Authentication Service uses Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) status code 402 to alert the user that payment is required to access a resource. Currently, this code is practically not used.

LSAT can accelerate the transition to Web 3.0 and take the use of cryptocurrency to the next level.
