Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced that it is working with startup AutoX to bring self-driving taxis onto the roads of major Chinese cities.
The artificial intelligence system developed by AutoX will be installed in Chrysler Pacificas vehicles. The startup has adapted local driving styles to navigate challenging and dynamic urban environments.
According to partners, Services robotic taxis can be launched in cities such as Shenzhen and Shanghai as early as the first half of 2020.
In recent years Fiat Chrysler lagged far behind its main competitors in the field of electric vehicle technology and autonomous vehicles. However, the collaboration with Waymo, Foxconn and AutoX should make a difference and help the automaker to at least close the gap..

However, FCA will face serious competition in the Chinese market, where the authorities have allowed open trials of autonomous vehicles on public roads since 2017 and companies such as Alibaba, Baidu and Tencent are actively developing their own platforms..
Autonomous control systems are rapidly improving and recently the autonomous truck drove 4500 km for the first time on roads of various types without incidents.
