On August 1, the Ethereum Classic blockchain underwent a sequential reorganization of 3693 blocks, which led to the termination of their synchronization.
The suspicious activity was first noticed by the mining company Bitfly, which promptly notified the crypto community about this and recommended that exchanges freeze ETC deposits and withdrawals due to suspicions of a 51% attack. Later, the changes in the blockchain were also confirmed by the development team and official representatives of the platform itself..
According to ETC Labs CEO Terry Culver, the reorganization was not malicious and happened by accident, due to the fact that one of the miners temporarily lost access to the Internet..
Ethereum Classic has reorganized 3693 blocks
Immediately after identifying the changes, Bitfly proposed to take measures to counter potential hackers, since exactly a year ago, a team of researchers recorded a reorganization of 100 blocks for the purpose of double spending 88.5 thousand ETC in the amount of $ 450 thousand.
