China will replace street lights with artificial moon

China’s Research Institute of Microelectronics Systems (ASTMSRI) announced plans to create an artificial moon that will illuminate night streets by 2020.

A representative of the institute said that they are planning to launch a satellite that will be able to illuminate a section of the Earth with an area of 10 to 80 square kilometers. Although its effect is limited, the radiation will be 8 times brighter than from the moon. The project will not completely replace a natural satellite, but will be able to effectively complement it.

China is primarily interested in the economic side of development. Futuristic project must reduce the cost of lighting city streets. According to preliminary estimates, the savings over five years of its use will amount to almost $ 2.9 billion. The sources of funding have not yet been disclosed..

Scientists also assure that the satellite will not harm the biological systems of people, their health and rhythm of life. Despite the institute’s lofty intentions and clear budgetary benefits, some citizens are unhappy that China’s artificial moon will prevent them from stargazing and skygazing..

Another project of the world of the future was presented by researchers from ETH Zurich and EPFL, who developed the glove weighing less than 8 grams, which allows a person to feel virtual objects.
